Biography/Research
Prior to joining CRESST, Dr. Wainess was a senior lecturer in the University of Southern California's Information Technology Program. His research interests center on the use of games and simulations for training and assessment of adult learners. Richard's most recent work is focused primarily on assessment of problem solving and decision making using computer-based interactive tools. He has authored and co-authored numerous reports, articles, and book chapters and has presented at many conferences on the topic of games and simulations for learning, with a particular emphasis on instructional methods, cognitive load theory, and learning outcomes.
