Biography/Research
Lorrie A. Shepard is a professor of education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her research in applied measurement has addressed issues of standard setting and test bias while her work in educational policy research has focused on the uses of tests for special school placements. Dr. Shepard has conducted extensive large-scale studies on the identification of learning disabilities, grade retention, and kindergarten screening. Her recent CRESST work has documented the effects of testing on teaching and student learning. Presently, she is conducting research on classroom uses of assessment to further the learning process. Dr. Shepard is a member of the National Academy of Education. She has served as president of the American Educational Research Association and president of the National Council on Measurement in Education. Recently she received the Distinguished Career Award from the National Council on Measurement in Education.
