Human Performance Knowledge, Models, and Tools

Air Defense Planning Assessment
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) funded this one-year project to extend the research and development completed on the ONR project “Knowledge, Models and Tools to Improve the Effectiveness of Naval Distance Learning.” The new work included guidelines for the design, development, and evaluation of distance learning courses for teams; a prototype guidelines delivery tool; new models and tools fusing data from a variety of assessments to diagnose learner problems in distance learning environments and prescribe remedial instruction; an instructional simulation integrated with the diagnosis/prescription models and tools; research on the cognitive determinants of psychomotor skills; and an authoring system for PC-based training simulations or games. The guidelines were developed by CRESST’s subcontractor, the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education (RSOE). The instructional simulations and the iRides simulation authoring system were developed by the University of Southern California Center for Cognitive Technology (CCT).

Products of this research, assessment models and tools, and diagnosis reporting applied to air defense and link architecture training have been transitioned to operational use at the Navy Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, RI.
