CRESST researchers publish well over 150 articles every year, primarily in distinguished peer-reviewed journals but also in more practice- or policy-focused publications such as Educational Leadership, Education Next, Phi Delta Kappan magazine, the American School Board Journal, and the National PTA's Our Children magazine. CRESST partners publish scholarly books and are regularly quoted for their expertise in America's newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, or Chicago Tribune. Our researchers serve as editors, co-editors, and reviewers for a number of national journals including the journal Educational Assessment.

CRESST Mourns Death of Valuable Colleague

Wally Feurzeig, inventor of the LOGO programming language and a well known artificial intelligence researcher, passed away quietly in early January at his home. Wally was providing expert guidance on both physics content and game design for the CRESST Engage project, supporting science learning for young children in grades K-3.

"Wally was a good friend and a genius who helped us think in ways we never thought possible," said CRESST Co-Director Eva Baker. CRESST offers its condolences to Wally's family and colleagues around the world.

CRESST Mourns Death of Valuable Colleague

CRESST adds its condolences to the passing of an outstanding inventor and partner, Wally Feurzeig, who passed away quietly at his home last Friday night. Well known for his development of the LOGO programming language and a key researcher in the artificial intelligence field, Wally was providing expert guidance on the physics content for Engage, a major CRESST research project. His experience in developing computer-based physics tasks for young children was particularly valuable, given that Engage supports the learning of very young children (K-3).

CRESST Welcomes New Dean

CRESST is pleased to welcome the new dean of the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, during his first visit to CRESST on October 1, 2012. 

An international scholar who has been widely published in global outlets, Dean Suárez-Orozco comes to UCLA and CRESST from the New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

Joan Herman Joins Prestigious "Board on Testing and Assessment"

CRESST Director Joan Herman recently accepted an invitation to join the National Research Council's Board on Testing and Assessment (BOTA). 

Comprised of distinguished accountability experts from across the United States, the Board on Testing and Assessment provides policymakers and the public with scientific expertise around critical issues of testing and assessment in education, the workplace, and the armed services.

CRESST Says Farewell to Kim Hurst

CRESST bids a fond farewell to Kim Hurst who has provided outstanding administrative support and services to the center for more than 20 years.

Measurement Community Loses Daniel Eignor

Daniel Robert Eignor, 65, a psychometrician at Educational Testing Service died peacefully at home on Friday, May 25, 2012, after a short illness.

"Dan made numerous contributions to the measurement community," said CRESST Director Joan Herman, who had been working recently with Dr. Eignor on the committee that is revising the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. Dr. Herman added that "Dan served the test community in many roles, including as president of the National Council on Measurement in Education. We'll all miss him."

Robert Glaser Remembered

CRESST Director Eva Baker recently joined in a special memorial session that honored the late Robert Glaser during the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association. Professor Glaser was a long-time CRESST partner, colleague and friend.

Li Cai Introduced as New CRESST Co-Director at AERA

At this year's annual AERA meeting, CRESST Directors Joan Herman (L) and Eva Baker (R) welcomed Associate Professor Li Cai as a new CRESST Co-Director. 

Although still early in his career, Cai has already garnered a host of distinguished honors, including the prestigious Anne Anastasi Early Career Award from the American Psychological Association.
